To you who submit a saliva sample
The DNA profile may only be used for identification purposes. It holds no information of personal traits.
If you are suspected of an offence
According to Swedish law, a saliva sample for DNA analysis may be taken from you if you are suspected of an offence which could result in imprisonment.
Your DNA profile will be included in the Swedish Police Authority DNA Database.
The database contains DNA profiles of individuals who
- are suspected of an offence which could result in imprisonment or
- have been sentenced to imprisonment or probation.
Your DNA profile will be searched against DNA profiles from crime scenes and other suspects and convicted offenders in the DNA database.
Your DNA profile is also searched against national DNA databases in other European countries.
Your DNA profile will be removed from the DNA database when your records are deleted from the Swedish criminal records.
If you are not suspected of an offence
According to Swedish law, a saliva sample for DNA analysis may be taken from you even if you are not suspected of an offence.
This is done in cases where it may be of great importance for the investigation of an offence which could result in imprisonment.
Your DNA profile is compared to DNA profiles from the crime scene. Your profile is not entered to the Swedish Police Authority DNA Database.
