Leave criminality

There is help for you who are young and want to leave crime behind. This is what you should to do if you want to leave criminality, and need help from the Police or social services to succeed in that.

Are you afraid? Have you or your family been threatened or subject to extorsion? Do you have criminal friends? It may feel like you’re stuck in criminal circles, if your friends or yourself are involved in crime. Maybe you feel like you can’t do anything about it, that it’s too late or that you can’t trust anyone. But that’s not true.

You’re not alone with those thoughts and there is help to get. It can be hard to ask for help, but you and your family should not have to live in constant fear. You can get help even if you already have committed a crime. You don’t have to talk about crimes that you or your friends have committed.

Take the first step

Reach out to us. The number 114 14 to the Police is open 24/7, every day of the year. The person you want to talk to is called avhopparsamordnare (defection coordinator). Ask to speak to the Police’s avhopparsamordnare. If there is an ongoing crime, always call 112.

You can also contact social services in your municipality. Social services support young people who wants to stop committing crime. You can anonymously ask questions to social services about what type of support you can get. The municipalities are often open during office hours, Monday to Friday.

The Police and social services will work together on your needs, and you need to cooperate with them.

What happens next?

The Police will come and speak to you about your situation and the threats against you, to find out what kind of protection you need. The Police will ask you about your life and your family, your friends and school.
