Polisens närvaro stoppade våldet på Campus Risbergska

Uppdatering: Den aktuella busshållplatsen som den misstänkte gärningspersonen går av vid heter Vaktelvägen västra Haga och ligger intill Campus Risbergska och Karlslundsskolan. 

De första patrullerna som kom till platsen gick direkt in i byggnaden. Den misstänkte avlossade ett flertal skott mot dem. Efter skotten mot poliserna skjuter mannen inga ytterligare skott mot någon annan än sig själv. Det visar poliserna ljud- och bildupptagning från insatsen.

Utredningen har kommit fram till att polisens närvaro stoppade det dödliga våldet. Den misstänkte gärningspersonen var kraftigt beväpnad. Trots att så många som tio personer dödades är polisens bestämda uppfattning att fler hade kunnat mista livet om polisen inte så snabbt kommit till platsen.

Bedömningen av polisens insats under de initiala minuterna är baserad på bland annat:

• den forensiska utredning som genomförts,
• PM/rapporter från poliserna som var först på plats och
• genomgång av material som spelats in med polisernas kroppskameror. 
  
  

– De poliser som var först på plats och gick in i byggnaden har själva utsatt sig för absolut livsfara, säger Niclas Hallgren, biträdande regionpolischef i polisregion Bergslagen. I den här extremt svåra situationen har de tillämpat den utbildning och träning de får i att avbryta pågående dödligt våld. 

Polisen efterfrågar vittnesuppgifter

Polisen har en bra bild av vad som hände den aktuella dagen, med undantag för drygt tre timmar på förmiddagen. Gärningsmannen åker med buss från Resecentrum i Örebro klockan 07:35 och anländer klockan 07:47 till busshållplatsen Vaktelvägen västra Haga som ligger intill Campus Risbergska och Karlslundsskolan. 

– Det finns ett glapp där vi fortfarande kartlägger den misstänkte, säger Emelie Bodegrim, biträdande kommenderingschef i den särskilda händelsen som hanterar skjutningen. Vi vill därför ha allmänhetens hjälp med observationer från busshållplatsen mot Campus Risbergska mellan klockan 07:47 och 11:30.

In english: The Police’s presence put a stop to the violence at Campus Risbergska

The Police now have quite a clear picture of how the attack unfolded at Campus Risbergska – from the first emergency alert to the perpetrator taking his own life. A time span of approximately 12 minutes. 

The first officers who arrived at the scene went straight into the building. The suspect fired several shots at them. After firing these shots at the police officers, the man did not fire any more shots at anyone other than himself. This is clear from the Police’s audio and visual recordings from the operation.

Investigators have established that the Police’s presence put a stop to the deadly violence. The suspected perpetrator was heavily armed. Despite the fact that as many as ten people were killed, the Police are quite certain that more people may have been killed if the Police had not arrived at the scene so quickly.

The assessment of the police response during the first few minutes is based on the following, among other things:

• the forensic examination carried out;
• reports from police officers who were first to arrive at the scene; and
• a review of the material recorded by the police officers’ bodycams. 

“The police officers who were the first to arrive at the scene and entered the building were in absolute danger of losing their lives,” says Niclas Hallgren, Deputy Head of Police Region Bergslagen. “In this extremely difficult situation they put into practice the training they have received to interrupt ongoing deadly violence,” he adds.

Police calling for more witnesses to come forward

The Police have a good idea of what happened that day, apart from during a period of just over three hours in the morning. The perpetrator got the bus from Resecentrum in Örebro at 07.35 and arrived at Vaktelvägen västra Haga, a bus stop near to Campus Risbergska, at 07.47.

“There is a gap in which we are still trying to establish the suspect’s movements,” says Emelie Bodegrim, Deputy Police Operation Commander for the ‘Major Incident’ operation that is dealing with the shooting. “We would therefore like the general public to help us with any observations from the bus stop in the direction of Campus Risbergska between 07.47 and 11.30 that morning,” she says.
