Per-Erik Ebbeståhl, Director of Sustainability and Safety, Malmö Municipality, Petra Stenkula, Police Operation Commander and Head of Police District Malmö, Ebba Adielsson, executive producer SVT, Karin Mårtensson, CEO Malmö Arena, participated in the press conference on Wednesday.

Petra Stenkula, Police Operation Commander for Eurovision, took part in a press conference on the security arrangements for Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö.

The world’s largest music contest, Eurovision Song Contest, is arranged in Malmö from 4 to 11 May. This year’s event is characterised by high levels of security, and in a joint press conference with the organisers, Malmö Municipality, SVT and Malmö Arena, Petra Stenkula described the preparations of the police.

“Since it was decided that Malmö would be the host city for Eurovision, we have cooperated closely with the organisers SVT and Malmö Municipality. Together, we have built a robust system with different areas of responsibility to ensure a safe and secure event,” she said.

Petra Stenkula emphasized that there will be a lot of police officers in Malmö during Eurovision, and there will be officers who are armed with supplementary weapons.

This is a precautionary measure and nothing to worry about. “The Swedish Police are ready for Eurovision”. We will be at the location to improve safety and to prevent that participants and visitors become the victims of crime, whether minor or serious.

The police have also made preparations to deal with a number of scenarios during Eurovision and coordinates closely with other actors to ensure that everything runs smoothly and is safe and secure.

“One thing that we can almost certainly assume will happen is that rumours will spread about Eurovision, and possibly that more coordinated disinformation campaigns will take place. Do not believe everything you hear and do not spread information without critical thinking. If there is information on threats, let the police assess information that concerns the safety of the event,” Petra Stenkula said.
