The Police will reinforce camera surveillance in Helsingborg, and use additional drones to patrol the airspace, among other things.
After Malmö, the Helsingborg Police were the first in the country to use camera-equipped drones that function as aerial-borne patrol cars. The drones – which are controlled remotely from the police’s camera surveillance centre – have been placed at strategically important locations across the city, from where they can take off in just a few seconds and head to the scene of a crime or an accident.
This technology has been used in Helsingborg since autumn 2025. In connection with the NATO meeting, the Police will reinforce their capacity to patrol the airspace with additional flying patrol cars.
- This type of drones has great potential to help prevent crime, as they are able to navigate quickly and provide information on what is happening on the ground. However, during this operation, they will probably not be the first to arrive at an incident scene, as there will be a very large number of police officers present in Helsingborg during these days. The drones will primarily be used to obtain a good overview and the possibility to make better tactical decisions, says Mattias Sigfridsson, Police Operation Commander.
In connection with the NATO meeting, the Police will also reinforce camera surveillance in other ways. Additional fixed cameras have been mounted at strategic locations, both in Helsingborg and at the access roads to the airports at which the delegations will arrive. A number of small camera-equipped trailers will also be used in the operation.
- The reinforced camera surveillance will provide good coverage. We will obtain a good situational picture and be able to intervene in advance, should we detect anything that deviates from the normal picture, says Mattias Sigfridsson.
